As a Southeast municipality invested in transforming its downtown into a vibrant community hub, its workforce needs grew with it.

More than 20 years ago, the city began working with PeopleReady to support waste management and recycling operations. What started with a need for a handful of refuse collection workers evolved into a long-standing partnership supporting a wide range of city operations.

As the city revitalized its downtown area, including the development of a 20- to 25-mile bike trail running through the community, maintaining these public spaces became increasingly important.

The city needed access to reliable workers who could support changing needs across waste collection and recycling, parks and recreation work, downtown maintenance, community events and other projects.

SOLUTION

PeopleReady provided the city with a flexible workforce that could adjust as its needs changed, supplying workers for day-to-day operations and providing additional support when demand increased.

For waste and recycling operations, the PeopleReady team supplies three to five garbage collection workers per day, supporting crews on the back of garbage trucks.

PeopleReady also supports the Parks and Recreation Department in the city’s downtown area. General helpers handle a variety of responsibilities, including cleaning sidewalks and public spaces, maintaining landscaping and helping keep the entire area looking its best.

The partnership has expanded beyond these core needs, with the city often turning to PeopleReady for support during community events and other projects.

RESULTS

After more than 20 years of collaboration, the city has a workforce partner it can rely on as its needs evolve. What started as a need for waste and recycling support has expanded into workforce support across multiple city operations, giving the city the flexibility to respond as priorities change.

In one year alone, PeopleReady filled more than 3,500 shifts, helping the city maintain a clean, welcoming environment for residents and visitors as downtown continues to grow.

With a workforce partner ready to step in when needed, the city can stay focused on keeping its community running smoothly and creating a place where residents and visitors want to be.
