PeopleReady helps power large-scale veteran housing transformation with reliable on-site temporary staffing support

CHALLENGE

Tens of thousands of veterans across the country face housing instability, with more than 32,000 veterans experiencing homelessness on any given night last year. In Arizona, The Home Depot Foundation partnered with a local nonprofit to help address this need. Together, they set out to transform a former Holiday Inn into a supportive housing community for veterans.

To prepare the property, extensive indoor and outdoor renovations were required, including landscaping improvements, loading and unloading materials, cleaning, furniture assembly and general labor support.

Though they had hundreds of volunteers participating, The Home Depot Foundation needed a group of dependable workers who could support a fast-moving renovation staffing project and help keep a large volunteer effort on schedule. Finding qualified temporary workers on short notice while maintaining reliability and professionalism was critical to the project’s success.

SOLUTION

PeopleReady leveraged its local recruiting network, on-demand staffing capabilities and on-site support team to quickly provide qualified W-2, E-Verified workers for two Arizona renovation sites. All workers met required background screening standards and wore a consistent event uniform, ensuring a professional presence while supporting a federal veteran housing community. Approximately 20 PeopleReady workers were assigned to each location, supporting volunteer groups of 450 people at one site and 280 at another. Their efforts helped create the foundation volunteers needed to work efficiently over four consecutive days.

PeopleReady also provided hands-on workforce coordination throughout the project. The team managed attendance, monitored coverage and quickly addressed last-minute staffing needs to keep work moving without disruption.

RESULTS

What began as a local annual project has evolved into a trusted partnership spanning four consecutive years. Together, PeopleReady and The Home Depot Foundation have continued to support this Arizona event and its mission to provide veterans with safe, stable housing.

By providing reliable workforce coverage and qualified workers exactly when and where they were needed, PeopleReady helped keep renovation work on schedule and volunteers focused on transforming the property into safe, stable housing for veterans.

The partnership delivered:

  • 2 large-scale veteran housing facilities and a city park improved
  • 400+ veterans and first responders housed or supported
  • 2,800 total volunteer hours contributed
  • 500,000+ square feet renovated in Phoenix, AZ

Beyond the numbers, Gabriel Sneller, Manager of Foundation Projects at The Home Depot Foundation, shared that they “couldn’t do this without PeopleReady” and said he continues to recommend PeopleReady to others:
