A certain level of experience is the key, as carpenters typically enter the profession through on-the-job training, a trade school, or by enrolling in an apprenticeship. An apprenticeship requires a high school diploma (or equivalent), and usually takes 3-4 years to complete. Once completed, you can pass an exam to become a journeyman carpenter.View Skilled Jobs
Most carpenter jobs don’t require specific certifications, though professional organizations like the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) offer some voluntary certifications and memberships.
Most employers prefer you to have some sort of formal welding instruction, which might come from a vocational school or community college. Several years of on-the-job training would also fulfill the apprentice requirement. After completing 2,000 hours of on-the-job training, you can move up to journeyman after passing a required exam.View Skilled Jobs
