THE CUSTOMER

National Tire Wholesale (NTW) is a tire distribution company with 130 centers nationwide. Their customers range from independent shops to big box retailers. Phillip Glass, operations manager of an NTW location in Memphis, works on the operational side of the business, ensuring the shipping center is running smoothly so that stores are properly staffed and stocked.

THE CHALLENGE

Glass is responsible for unloading trucks, and as with any job, external factors often affect a driver’s schedule, which means a truck’s arrival time may change at a moment’s notice. These common but still unexpected changes make it difficult to plan and staff properly. For example, Glass might not find out until the night before that a truck is arriving the next day, which means he has a short window of time—likely outside of normal business hours—to place an order for workers who need to be ready to start first thing in the morning. Even if he has more notice, he often finds himself so busy during the day that his first free moment occurs after work.

However, Glass doesn’t just want any workers; he wants strong performers who understand the special requirements of the industry. He needed a solution that brought the quantity and quality of workers to get the job done well and on time.

THE SOLUTION

These ratings are part of the associate’s profile so that other customers like Glass can request high-performing workers who are the right match for the job. As a result, Glass has seen high productivity from these knowledge top performers.

This productivity extends to Glass, too, as he can also confirm a worker’s hours (or timesheet) through the app, and doesn’t have to deal with paperwork.
