The gig economy is growing. By 2020, over 7.7 million workers will be picking up shifts to either supplement their 9-to-5 work schedule, or to avoid it all together.  With more people entering the on-demand workforce, it’s important to start to differentiate yourself from the competition. Here are our 4 tips to help you stand out in the growing crowd of on-demand workers.

1. Network

Networking involves growing and establishing relationships throughout your career. Although your current assignment may not be permanent, the relationships you make can help you in the future. Everyone you meeton your current job site, whether they are another associate or the site supervisor, may be able to introduce you to other opportunities and contacts down the road. Who knows – they may even introduce you to a full time opportunity.

2. Use Your Skills to Grow

Today you have more choice in which assignments you are sent to. In fact, you have the ability to pick and choose when you work, where you work, and the type of work you want to do. With that choice comes great responsibility. Pick jobs that matches your career goals – use the skills you have now to help you get the long-term benefits you need for your career.

3. Try Something New

If you don’t know where to start, work with a recruiter. They’ll be able to find you a job that matches the skills you already have. It may even be in an industry you never thought would be a match. Stay open minded, you may be pleasantly surprised at the results.

4. Be Indispensable

Give each project and assignment your all. Always arrive on time and be willing to go the extra mile. This means not only completing your projects, but helping others around you as well. Make a positive impact no matter how short your time on the job may be.
